Christmas computer fail again!
Dec. 14th, 2009 12:30 amIt seems to be a new tradition for me to bugger up my technology right before the holiday season. Last year I completely killed our old PC and blagged my bro's spare one, which has gone hideously obsolete in just a year (512 ramz) and chugs like a mother. We decided last night to put the bleeder upstairs in the library, and did so, intending to grab a wireless donglethingy from broface. It didn't work. Add to that the fact that Anna decided it would be a good idea to take the keyboard to bits and clean it out (and managed to pwn it to make it die) and you've got a plethora of fail. Well hello anyway; I am still here, typing this from the ol' phone. I have splurged on a new laptop, which is possibly a very silly thing to do at this time of year. I haven't finished my shopping for Christmas yet. Well, I only need to buy ingredients for baskets of nom-noms, possibly a couple of things for Mum if I can think of anything. I might also get Dad a copy of the Monty Python boxset; I was making him rofl earlier with impressions. Oh we used to have some laughs watching the films with Dad when we woz kids.
Oh, Christmas. I've considered myself a true aromantic of late, but lately I've found myself looking at families out shopping and going to fayres and loving the Christmassy atmosphere and wishing I could have some of that, just a little bit. Someone to walk around with, share some candyfloss and chats and hugs. A date or something, but not. Haha. One of the best nights I had was with this guy I met one night in the Dungeon; he drove all the way to Hythe to take me out for the night, and we ended up on a mini pub crawl. We just really had a lot to say to each other, it was super-relaxed and I think because I was younger then and didn't really realise what dating was about, I didn't feel any pressure. Sort of thing. Anyway we walked and talked, then went back to mine for an all-night tournament of Worms with Leeps. Quite awesome. I liked him a lot and think we could've been great friends. He cleared off soon after, back up north - he was a Mackem. He said he had a stalkerish ex or something and had to run back to sort things out. This was when I saw him months later and had forgotten what he looked like, and Dave had to tell me who the hell he was. Anyway that's nuffink to do with nuffink.
Romance. The domestic life. Doing silly but enjoyable things. Like going to garden centres with friends and buying plants for our garden. Walking the dogs and discussing five-year plans. The small pleasures. The memorable occasions where you're just talking. Like when Anna and I get a bottle of wine and watch DVDs or get photos out. Driving all the way to Birmingham with Timur to see a band and talking about his engagement and wedding ideas. Little moments like when Steve and I would go off and do spontaneous things like go to the aquarium. Just doing things together and sharing a moment, that's what I mean by romantic, and what I'm after. That's what I miss and that's my point haha, I knew I had one somewhere.
Dave says I sound like Amelie when I go on about this kind of stuff. The romance of Christmas, though! I love it. So I need to do something. Maybe hit the town on Friday night or something with a friend. Eat German sausages and beer! Do want! Love the atmosphere. Want to share it with people, really. New people or old friends, both would be awesome.
